CRGV – Alabama Rot

 

Alabama Rot is on the rise once again in the UK!

CRGV, commonly known as Alabama Rot, is a canine disease that causes problems with skin, blood vessels and the kidneys.

 

Signs to look out for:

  • Swelling
  • Skin sores
  • Patches of red skin
  • Lesions
  • Hair loss
  • Reduced appetite and vomiting

These lesions are most commonly found on the elbows, knees, stomach and occasionally the face as you can see on the image below.

Prevention

Although there may not be any preventative treatment for Alabama rot, there are a few precautions you can take:

Stay away from affected areas and wash off all mud from legs and stomach after walks.

Check for signs of Alabama rot and if in doubt, contact your local vet.

 

Confirmed cases in the local area are Sacriston (Durham), Darlington and Hamsterly.
