OUR HISTORY

MISSION STATEMENT

At Gilmoor Vets, we are committed to helping people and their pets in leading happy and healthy lives.

We strive to provide a professional, compassionate and efficient service to our clients whose animals, both companion and working, are our prime concern. We aim to achieve a working environment that is positive, progressive, informative, cheerful and helpful for both clients and colleagues alike.

It is not our intention to provide the cheapest veterinary service but one that reflects the high standards of veterinary care provided. The fees charged should represent value for money, for provision of top quality professional services, seven days a week at a price that is fair to both clients and team.

We constantly strive to improve our service and encourage continuous training for all of our team. We hope that our standard of care and the service provided encourages clients to return to us whenever the need arises.

Gilmoor Vets opened 1988 as the first dedicated small animal practice in Durham city. The practice has established a great reputation based on excellence in clinical care provided by a friendly and familiar team. We are very proud of the fact that many of our team have been with us since the beginning and have had the privilege to know our clients and their pets throughout their lives.

Frances Allen MRCVS  opened this first clinic as a sole practitioner and the practice’s good reputation and success allowed it to grow. She has developed this initial clinic into a multi-vet practice in 3 sites with surgeries at DurhamSunderland and Spennymoor

Frances Allen continued to be a driving force within the practice until her retirement in May 2018.  Her practices now boast a support team of more than 20 including; 6 full time veterinary surgeons, qualified and student veterinary nurses, theatre assistants, office and managerial team and dedicated reception team at all 3 sites.

We are a first-opinion, general practice with the facilities to provide a complete service for our patients from initial discussion with the owners through diagnosis, surgery and post-operative care, seven days a week.

Our present premises is a converted pub hence the name Hare and Hounds Veterinary centre.
